A Principal is responsible for the analysis, evaluation, and execution of private debt and equity investment opportunities offered to Northwestern Mutual Capital by investment bankers, issuers, and private equity sponsors. Specific responsibilities include financial modeling and valuation analysis, developing investment committee recommendation memos, conducting industry and business due diligence and meeting with senior level executives, investment bankers, and private equity sponsors to obtain a thorough understanding of the investment merits and risks of the transaction. Principals are also responsible for monitoring investments in the Northwestern Mutual Capital portfolio. The Principal, operating in a team environment, will be given increasing responsibility over time and high performers can expect significant career advancement opportunities.
Requirements: MBA from a top-tier business school and a minimum of four years of experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research or other related industries.
An Analyst is responsible for evaluating direct private debt and equity investment opportunities across a wide range of industries. The position is a generalist, cross-functional role, broadly supporting senior investment professionals in all aspects of a transaction, including analyzing, modeling, and monitoring investment opportunities. The role offers a diversified exposure to private equity and fixed income investing, and Analysts are heavily involved in the development of LBO and financial return models, investment theses, and various risk analyses. Training will be largely on-the-job, aided by the mentorship and guidance of senior investment professionals, and Analysts will be given increasing responsibility over time as they develop and demonstrate proficiency in the role. The NMC Analyst program provides an opportunity to work in a high-volume, lean deal team environment, develop a strong analytical framework, and foster a unique qualitative skill set by interacting with investment bankers, corporate executives, and private equity sponsors.
Requirements: Four-year undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting or mathematics, a track-record of academic excellence, a demonstrated interest in finance and investing, and a strong intellectual curiosity.
The NMC Summer Analyst program is designed for high performing undergraduates with a demonstrated interest in finance and investing to gain direct exposure to private equity and fixed income investing. Over the course of the program, Summer Analysts can expect to begin to develop a foundational skillset in valuation, financial modeling, investment thesis development and deal execution that will prove to be invaluable in future opportunities.
